Cultural Tour: West Lake Museum and Silk Museum, Tree Planting Ceremony, and Farewell Dinner and Closing Ceremony
Today was a very long day, but also very fun! In the morning we had breakfast and then went to our morning Chinese class and during the our class we improved our Chinese speaking, writing and listening skills. After we had a short break, then we worked on our song for the closing ceremony and finished the morning by reviewing for our test tomorrow. Once we finished lunch at the hotel we learned about woodblock painting and it was very interesting! After our workshop we went to the Xixi Wetlands, where we toured the museum and had a delicious and give dinner. Today was a very long and fun day and tomorrow is the closing ceremony. Jianni

Much was accomplished today as we had an early start! Left at 8:00 to go to the senior home and preformed a show we only practiced four times. The people loved it! The response was warm and friendly. The ambassador performance even shed some tears. Later we went to the hotel simply to eat some lunch and then we went straight to 宋城. It was a strange mix between a street market and a Disney Land. To say the least; it was amazing! We soon went to a show to showcase the cultural heritage of HangZhou! We later went our separate ways to go to things like haunted houses or shopping and other such attractions. Afterwards we had a great time at KFC and had our mandatory fast food fix one last time before we head back home. Lastly we retreated back to the hotel to do as we please for the rest of the day. Sunday may be our self-study free day, but let the title fool you not it was a day full of adventure none the less. Today was a shopping day in Incity for most of everyone else; Caleb, Gary, Landon and I having been to Incity already figured time could be spent better working on our summative projects. The real adventure began when we went out with Mr. Bohl to the back streets for lunch, when we finally mustered up the courage we picked a small restaraunt that actually turned out to be quite delicious, and (to my knowledge) no one has yet to experience any "adverse effects" from the meals, so we came out bellies full and feeling acomplished. That afternoon before the rest of the students got back from shopping, Landon and I went out to gather some interviews with the locals, and with the help of two very kind staff ladies from the hotel, we managed to snag quite a few interviews just in time for everyone to meet up and discuss projects. Later today we went to practice for our performance at the nursing home tomorrow, though we started out a bit rough around the edges, Sean managed to whip everyone in to shape so I am confident we will have a great performance tomorrow. When evening rolled around, we all gathered to wish Ms. Kate a happy birthday and had cake and noodles (in that order) and then at last returned to our rooms to get rest for another big day tomorrow. -Jared Daily Journal: Day 21
Today was just another chill day in China. We woke up, got Breakfast, which they have super yummy bread and this yougurt stuff that you drink that tastes really good. 😄, and met in the Lobby at 8:20 to head over to our chinese class. Its been raining a lot recently, but we got lucky and didn't have to use umbrellas. Chinese class was good as usual, with a boat load of class participation making sentences and translating the sentences into English. We ran through the new words for our lesson and did the usual for grammar after break. Then we headed back for lunch. Lunch was good, and then we had some time to relax in our rooms before meeting in the Lobby at 1:20 to head to the next seminar. We had a caligraphy class and our teacher really emphasized the importance of 道 and the technique we ended up practicing the 5 strokes and wrote 言而有信 which means "keep your promises". We got to sign our paper and got a stamp on it. Then we took our stuff over to the Student Center and practiced for our Performance on Monday. We had Sean lead us with others like Xander, Jake, and Maddie helping to choreograph and tighten the screws on our performance. Then we headed back to the Hotel again to get ready for Dinner, which was home style, or you all sit around a table and the center spiny thingy is laden with food and you all just grab what you want. Then we headed over to the martial arts room for a game party by the ambassadors. There were multiple games: Ping pong /Calligraphy where you had to bounce a ping pong ball on a course and then write a character, Jian Zi, which is basically a hackie sack but like a birdie for Badminton,a marble Chopstick game getting the marble from point A to point B, a mini onion ring game which you had to get 10 onion rings in a bowel onto a stick, eat them, and the whistle (super tough to whistle because of the dry onion ring), Stick toss, An obstacle course course where you and a partner hold a ballon between your backs and go up and over a few obstacles, pictures, and charades. If you won and did the best level, you got 3, middle is 2, middle low is 1, and sometimes you can get 0 if you just cant get the hang of it. Jeffery won with 29 postcards and got a mystery prize from the ambassadors! Then we headed back and got to get ready for bed. Overall a great day to be in China, but Its not over yet, I have to finish my laundry 😩. The morning started early, always quick to immerse all of us students in China's true culture of daily work. Our first two classes of the morning were Chinese language, where every day we make more progress and can pioneer our knowledge to get closer to fluency. Following that, we had several hours to practice, both on our own, and with the WXPoly students, for our presentations for Community Day. We certainly made headway! We'll be performing two half-songs (which I will leave to the event coordinators to specify, just in case it's a surprise) and one whole, both with a sort of dance routine. After this followed a group dinner, and following dinner was an informative, and also fun dough sculpting experience. We made a panda bear (熊猫)and truly got the chance to appreciate the skill that goes into Chinese dough sculptures. The task we were set up to do was rough sculpting. I can hardly imagine doing a delicate task like the masters do! ~ Trevor Roe Seminar: Chinese Language and Seminar: Biofuel & Geothermal energy: technology and ApplicationToday started with a wonderful lesson on chinese learning some new words and playing "Lao Shi". After lunch was another wonderful seminar on biofuels and geothermal energy. What it is, how they do it, and how they make it available to all who desire it. After that we did some Chinese Paper Cutting. We learned how to make an entire chinese character in one cut! After that we tried our hands at some beautiful fish. Some were better than other but they were all beautiful! And to end such a fun-filled day, we made dumplings. I can't wait to make them at home! ~ Robert O'Neil
Cultural Tour: Hefang STreetToday was a great day at Hefang Street! Wherever wr went there were stores. Look to the right and left and you see a bunch of them. What was also cool was the other section of Hefang Street. More stores, more stores, and more stores coming your way. If you want some shoes, accessories, food, tea, and lots of other things, then here is were it's at. There are many good looking things that are cheap as well. This was a fun shopping trip for me. Hanging with my friends and discovering the coolness of Hefang Street is a great experience!~ Landen
