Seminars: chinese Language and Workshop: Dough Sculpture
Journal of Friday, July 17*
The morning started early, always quick to immerse all of us students in China's true culture of daily work. Our first two classes of the morning were Chinese language, where every day we make more progress and can pioneer our knowledge to get closer to fluency. Following that, we had several hours to practice, both on our own, and with the WXPoly students, for our presentations for Community Day. We certainly made headway! We'll be performing two half-songs (which I will leave to the event coordinators to specify, just in case it's a surprise) and one whole, both with a sort of dance routine. After this followed a group dinner, and following dinner was an informative, and also fun dough sculpting experience. We made a panda bear (熊猫)and truly got the chance to appreciate the skill that goes into Chinese dough sculptures. The task we were set up to do was rough sculpting. I can hardly imagine doing a delicate task like the masters do! ~ Trevor Roe
