Seminars on Clean Energy and Study Visit Wanxiang
Student Reflections on Clean energy seminars and wanxiang study visit
What are China's clean energy challenges and what are their actions for the future? Will Wanxiang's globalization help in planning China's green future?
"1.Some of China's challenges include the lack of non profit organizations be use of a weak society. Organizations that work to fund clean energy projects or to clean the environment are minimal, and are a little more troublesome than in America because the need for government approval. China's developments such as the electric vehicles also have problems such as funding for batteries that will fit in the car and have enough power to last a long time.
2. I think that globalization and working together will definitely lead to a green future because environmental problems are problems involving the whole world. Green energy solutions shouldn't be a competition between countries, but a global collaboration to work towards a greater outcome. Wanxiang is a great example on how businesses can branch out globally and make connections throughout countries with programs such as ours to educate students, who can use their experience to improve green energy solutions in the future." Sophie Hannah "1). China is facing some challenges when it comes to providing clean energy due to the large population as well as the limited natural resources available. Take hydro power as an example; the 3 Gorges Dam is enormous and provides electricty to a large population which of, includes 9 provinces and 2 other cities. Yet, this large project displaced 1.3 million people and over 100 towns were submerged underwater. Therefore, it's difficult to balance the advantages of having clean energy and not harming the enviroment as well as impacting the lives of many people living nearby. I believe China's future for energy will highly involve nuclear energy because it's clean but wind power is also popular so there will be many wind power plants as well. Wanxiang's globalization will help China's future because China is stepping up to play a large role in green energy considering the amount of people living there. Wanxiang's globalization will provide research on how vehicles can be more beneficial to the environment. The new electric cars and buses with Wanxiang's design will lower carbon dioxide emission and help reduce the pollution. This can help lead to other types of clean energy which will spread China's influence internationally." Vincent Gao "1.)China's plan for green energy is to start to gradually transition from the current consumption of fossil fuels to more renewable and clean energy alternatives. However some challenges they face include poverty, accessibility and practicality. There are still many places in China today that experience poverty unlike anything in the United States. Therefore, the Chinese government's priority of meeting basic human needs takes precedence over clean energy. Additionally, China struggles with the cost of clean energy technology, which is sometimes double that of fossil fuels.2.) Wanxiang's globalization plans greatly impact china and the worlds future in green energy. This is because they have invested in a variety of businesses in international locations. For instance, Wanxiang has a plant in the U.S. which almost exclusively hires American workers. This shows a level of trust and collaboration which will help advance green energy technology. Along with EV's, Wanxiang invests in real estate, agriculture, solar panels and much more. They are an excellent example of international communication leading to green energy solutions." Sarah Weardon "1.China, an ever evolving country, faces many challenges that are becoming a race against time as old energy sources disappear and new energy sources require much testing, optimization and government approval. The population and urbanization in China is also rapidly increasing which quickens the pace at which they run out of fossil fuels. Even though new technologies, including an EV Bus, have been made factors like cost and low efficiency keep a large amount of products off the streets. For the future, China continually works on optimizing Eco friendly products and going green with the help of the US through CERC." Zachary Black 1) China has many clean energy challenges that they have to face while switching over to more environmentally friendly energy sources. Currently China runs on mostly coal based energy sources, but they also work with other powers sources such as solar power and hydropower (clean energy). A problem with solar power is its high cost and low output. A problem with hydropower is flooding and displacement of people. China plans to continue to develop cheaper and more effective clean energy sources in solar power, hydropower, geothermal power, etc. 2) Wanxiang's globalization will help China enormously in developing clean energy. With globalization comes awareness and collaboration and that will lead to better and faster answers to China's (and the rest of the world's) clean energy problems. It will also give China access to more natural resources (and renewable resources) to develop clean energy. Madison |
"1.) China's current clean energy issues include the excessive use of fossil fuels and overconsumption of energy. An example of a non-renewable resource heavily used is coal, which contributes to 70% of China's energy production. Being the worlds biggest energy consumer, the Chinese government is addressing the task to increase energy saving through the installment of various types of renewable energy facilities such as offshore wind farms, natural gas extraction sites, and geothermal energy collection facilities. The government also has enacted rules affecting the facilitation of traffic in order to decrease the release of toxic gas into the atmosphere. 2.) I believe the globalization of the Wanxiang Group Corporation will greatly help in forming a structure for China's green energy future. Having offices in Europe, Latin and South America, Australia, and America, Wanxiang has the ability to spread their ideas for clean energy efficiency as well as their supplies through collaboration between corporations in those areas. An example supplies provided can be seen in Wanxiang Austria Pty. Ltd.. Wanxiang Australia supplies solar panels and electric vehicle drive systems to businesses and automobile manufactures in Australia. This collaboration and those like it can be the first steps in making clean energy a worldwide effort rather than an individual struggle countries everywhere face." Xander Opyio
"1) As the environment and economic status of various countries continue to change, a plethora of issues have amassed regarding clean energy initiatives and technologies. For instance, China faces numerous environmental problems, including and over dependence on fossil fuels and air pollution problems; however, over the past few years, China's government and businesses, such as Wanxiang, have developed programs and technologies to aid in this clean energy initiative. This includes the development of electric vehicles and the use of solar panels. Despite this recent development, however, there still remains problems with cost and efficiency, in which China is continuing to overcome. 2) Wanxiang's globalization will most definitely aid in the planning of China's green future as the participation of different countries is necessary in an effective initiative. As shown in lectures covering international policy and various clean energy solutions, collaboration between the United States and China is deemed necessary in the achievement of implementing clean energy. As the Wanxiang company continues to expand its global reach, the United States continues to actively participate in its clean energy initiative. Wanxiang currently harbors a manufacturing plant in the United States that develops various EVs and other technologies. This allows the United States and China to affectively collaborate in implementing clean energy, such as creating solar panels and initiating various study abroad programs. As cooperation among various nations continues to foster, Wanxiang proves to be an excellent example of international expansion and globalization." Santoshi "1. While China is advancing rapidly in the field of clean energy, the country still faces many challenges related to the environment. For example, a large portion of China's energy is coal powered, which contributes to its air pollution issue. Because many industries are still developing in China, it may not be as difficult to switch them to clean energy, but funding and infrastructure are needed. Companies like wanxiang and government programs are helping to broaden China's clean energy field and endure the country's sustainability for the future." Ravina "China's clean energy challenges is mostly cost. As a developing country, they don't have as many unclean energy as other developed countries so the transition is much cheaper, but at the same time, they don't have as high of a gdp. So far they actually are doing well economically but with such a high population I am not sure how tight of a budget they have. 2.) I believe their globalization is key for China as well as the countries they develop in. This will bring down the cost heavily if they have their own everything and don't have to pay other companies to get the raw materials when they can get them thenselves. Not only will it be cheaper, they will be able to learn how the other companies in other countries do it so they can improve their strategy. They can make it more realistic for everyone in china to afford and have the availability of green power" Robert |
Seminar & Study Visit: Social Development and Anti-Poverty Works in China
Student reflections on Social development and Anti-Poverty works in china
"The purpose of today's trip was to learn about the history of one of China's top trading cities and put our Chinese to use in order to bargain prices. I have learned a lot about the different definitions of poverty from today's lecture that I had not heard of before." ~ Madison
"The purpose of today's trip was to learn about the economic history of the Yi wu trade city while in the city itself as well as practice speaking Chinese through bargaining. In the lesson we learned the various levels and definitions of poverty and the theories as to why it occurs and ways to lessen it. The trip showed me the many ways Chinese citizens contributed to the growth of China's economy as a whole." Xander "Today we had a good lecture about poverty and took a trip to the largest indoor wholesale market in the world at Yi Wu. It was amazing to see how a small investment of 20,000 Yuan could be used to make a small market that would 30 years later grow into a city dealing with Billions of Yuan in the market. It seems that China is well on its way to decreasing poverty rates in the country by creating a flourishing economy that with trickle down economics will eventually raise the standard of living for the people." ~Caleb "The purpose of this trip was to enlighten members of different cultures and encourage collaborative innovation for the benefit of more than one nation. Today we learned how industry and urbanization plays a crucial role in eliminating poverty in China. In yiwu we saw how growth of the wholesale market could have a positive impact on China's economy." ~Sarah "I feel the purpose of today's trip and seminar was to show that even with China's flourishing economy there are still a great number of people from poor areas that find themselves stuck in the never ending cyle of poverty. Yiwu serves to show us that poverty is in fact not a never ending cycle, rather it is a state that can be overcome with proper economical development."~Jarred "I believe that the purpose if this trip was to demonstrate a good investment of public grounds to make a better overall peoples. And I learned from the trip and seminar that you have to play your cards right in order for a better tomorrow. Give some for the least of us and that may give you much more than you expected."~ Robert "I feel the purpose of this trip was to see the advancement of places once in poverty. To see the growth of china economically and industrially. On the trip I learned to understand the fact that poverty can exist any where but can be changed through economic strides. Also about Yi Wu and their rise to become a huge trade city."~ Zack "The purpose of today's trip was to garner knowledge on China's impoverished past and current issues it still faces. In today's lecture we learned of many facts and instances of poverty that truly shaped our understanding of the industrial and economic state of the world." ~Santoshi " I learned about China's roots and financial struggles it had to overcome in order to be ready for economic change." ~ Gary |
"The purpose of our meaningful trip today is to show how far China has advanced as the second greatest economy in the world. Such economy has transformed small towns into thriving urban areas and generated large amount of prosperity for many businesses. I've learned that China continues to fight poverty in many rural areas. This creates the need to find economic resources so the poor can have more opportunities to escape poverty. In addition the government has taken steps agains t poverty with more education opportunities and other similar reforms in poor areas." ~ Vincent

The museum and Yiwu trade center gave us a glimpse of China's anti poverty strategies. 2. I learned that poverty is a diverse and complex issue that China has focused on for many years. The lecture taught me about poverty reduction in China over the last few decades and the criteria for defining poverty. The tour showed me the amazing economic progress that China has made." ~ Ravina "From my perspective, the purpose of this trip is getting to know more about Chinese culture and the environment in China. We go on exciting tours to many places and engage in activities that show us Chinese culture. We also attend semirars that teach us things about China's environment. 2. For today's lesson about poverty, I learned more about how it's difficult for those that are poor to get out of poverty. We can also use the information that we learn in classes in our projects." ~ Landen "The purpose of today's lecture & trip was to show the similarities between so different countries. To show that no matter where you go there will always be a percentage of poverty. Even though China is one of the fastest growing economies they still lack in certain things."~ Jianni "I believe that the reason for our trip today was to prove that any economy or country can be affected by poverty, no matter the GDP or size. I learned today that China (or any country for that matter) has always been affected by poverty; but learned the specific measures China has been taking to reduce it within the country." ~Sean "Honestly I think the seminar overall was great! I honestly wish they would spend some more time explaining as to how they would pull these people out of poverty. The mall was nice but I wish they would go further in depth as to the social importance of the mall. Also I wish we were to spend more time in the mall. It felt far too brief"~ Nathaniel " I feel that the purpose of this trip is to display the incredible growth that China has undergone. Personally, knowing that the first EVER indoors wholesale market was built in '84, that is insane. That kind of economic growth, contrasted with what we saw of the building now? Amazing. From this trip, I learned about some specifics of China's economic development, like how just 35 years ago, trading was still being done by foot. Even if I don't really have a concept of what living in the 80's was like, that's pretty crazy from my perspective. Comparatively, the same place just 30 years later is literally the biggest shopping center on the planet. Not only that, but it's probably one of the youngest." Like, think about it: the U.S. in the 1700's was just starting to develop. China, in terms of trading development, started developing in 1980 in this specific regard. That's about 200 to 20 years in ratio to reach the same levels. If you graphed that growth factor that would be enormous. ~ Trevor |
